Corporal Richard Strong, a US Army cavalry soldier, survives close calls in the Indian War against Cheif Joseph in 1877, and then enters civilian life in Idaho and faces harrowing momments of desperation, love and conflict. His adventures build as he becomes a driver and guard of a pioneer businessman, "Tin Cup" Johnny Goddard, whose desier to be the richest man in the territory threatens them both.
